QUALIFICATIONS: Kentucky Certificate
JOB GOAL: To help reduce or eliminate communication disorders that interfere with the individual student's ability to benefit from the district's educational program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
(1) Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of children with communication disorders.
(2) Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring children with suspected communication disorders.
(3) Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of articulation, voice, fluency, and language disorders.
(4) Provides speech, language, and hearing screening at regular intervals and at specified levels, to identify children with communication disorders.
(5) Assists in appropriate referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community.
(6) Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student's needs.
(7) Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
(8) Serves as a resource by providing professional development and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning communication disorders and classroom follow-through of speech/language programs.
(9) Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy.
(10) Follows due process as stated in Kentucky regulations.
(11) Maintains license by earning continuing education units as required by state law.
(12) Performs such other tasks as may be requested by supervisor.
