GEAR UP – Academic Interventionist

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or related field
  • Minimum two years mentoring/working with youth

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to tutor students in academic content areas (especially math, science, reading, writing)
  • Experience collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents
  • Excellent rapport with students
  • Understanding of skills and academic levels needed to be college and career ready
  • A belief that all students can be college and career ready

Job Description

 

  • Tutor students in academic content areas (especially math, science, reading, writing)
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to provide academic supports

 

  • Develop students’ college preparation skills
  • Develop students’ career readiness skills
  • Develop students’ leadership skills
  • Provide parent engagement opportunities
  • Organize STEM opportunities
  • Organize summer learning opportunities

Salary

  • $37,829
  • Participation in Kentucky Teachers Retirement System (KTRS)

Timeline

  • This is a seven-year grant that ends in June 2025.  The district cannot guarantee employment after the grant has ended.

 

What is GEAR UP?  

GEAR UP Opportunities is a federal grant awarded to Pulaski County Schools.  The grant will specifically affect this year’s 11th and 12th grade students, and will follow them through graduation and post-secondary education.  Benefits include significant supplemental program funding and staffing.  The goals of the grant are (1) to improve students’ academic performance and college preparation, (2) to increase graduation rates and postsecondary education participation, (3) to increase educational aspirations and knowledge of postsecondary options, (4) to increase access to STEM learning opportunities, (5) to foster informed, thoughtful, and productive individuals and citizens.
